Eagles seem to be a very popular bird - I think because of the spirit of freedom and
strength they represent. I guess it was for those reasons that my Mother requested that I
make her an eagle for Christmas. One of the most time consuming projects I have attempted,
it started as a very basic wire frame with a single layer of wing feathers, and I just
kept adding feathers until I thought it was finished. The feathers are long pieces of wire
that are looped around a piece of card and then flattened out. This eagle is 15cm high,
19cm deep, and has a wingspan of 34cm (6 x 7.5 x 13.4 inches). It was completed on
Christmas eve 1997 (just in time!).
Making it required time and serious focus as if I were playing an online casino game or a serious round of chess.
I'm happy with the result though, it really paid off. If you like it, be sure to check out the other Twisted Copper designs on the index page. Feel free to get in touch with questions or comments. Thanks!
